President of Colombia announced the commencement of the referendum on the agreement to end a hiatus of more than 50 years in the country's conflict

Colombian President Juan Santos announced on Sunday, the start of the work of the election observation, composed of 200 people from 25 countries in a referendum on the peace agreement with the revolutionary "FARC," the armed forces in the country

Santos said as reported by Channel Russia Today: "We are facing through the referendum a historic decision, and we hope to make all Colombians cast their ballots," pointing out that the result of the referendum will be crucial to start applying the unprecedented agreement, which aims to turn the page on the conflict lasted more than half a century 

It is noteworthy that the agreement with the Revolutionary Armed Forces aimed at ending the armed conflict, the oldest in the Americas, became involved in it along the left-wing insurgencies military and militia of the extreme right decades, and left more than 260 people dead and 45 thousand missing and 6.2 million displaced
